Lewisburg, WV – The Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center is pleased to have paintings and photography from Monroe County artist, Laurine Yates, displayed for April’s Art in the Valley exhibit.
Laurine has been in the field of art her whole life as an art teacher, art therapist and artist. At Hood College, she studied painting and psychology, then, worked in the Peace Corps as an art teacher. After returning to the U.S., she studied at Hahneman University and received her master’s in art therapy. In Monroe and Greenbrier Counties, she taught art in after school programs, Carnegie’s Kids College, Creative Classrooms and other special programs.
Laurine is also an artist in her own right; two expressions of her three dimensional art work have been accepted at Tamarack. Recently, Laurine returned to her love of painting and joined the Greenbrier Artists. Laurine states that living in beautiful Monroe County gives her endless subject matter as the land, the flora and fauna, the sky and the light are always changing and giving unlimited inspiration.
The Visitors Center began the Art in the Valley project as a way to provide local artists with an exhibition space. Each month the Visitors Center showcases a different artist or collection of artists. The exhibits are free and open to the public.
The opening of Ms. Yates Art in the Valley exhibit will be April 3 during First Fridays after Five in the Visitors Center. Live music will be provided by Robin and Doug from 5 to 6 pm, followed by Strum Sum from 6 to 8 pm. While enjoying the opening, be sure to vote for the Best of the Greenbrier Valley.
