Position Available: Director of Destination Development

Reports to: President and CEO

Position Summary:  The Director of Destination Development will work closely with our tourism partners to create opportunities for new programs and products to further the organization’s mission of impacting the area’s economy by promoting it as a premier tourism destination. Responsibilities will include community and partner relations, group sales, advocacy, and project management. This position reports directly to the President and CEO and will serve as second in command of the organization in their absence.

 

Responsible for community and partner development and retention

  • Develop relationships and assist in building programs to address the needs of the area’s tourism industry
  • Sustain and strengthen relationships with partners
  • Spearhead the annual partner education program
  • Creates and sends monthly Partner E-News
  • Coordinate and disseminate annual partner surveys
  • Create and update partner database in CRM (customer relationship management) system

 

Create and lead a group sales program

  • Collaborate with hotels and event venues to secure group bookings
  • Lead the CVB Group Sales Committee
  • Represent the Greenbrier Valley at industry shows and sales missions
  • Develop, implement, and manage a sales strategy
  • Responsible for the partner side of the customer relationship management system
  • Manage RFP/lead distribution within the CRM system
  • Collaborate with marketing staff to maintain sales materials

 

Assist the CEO in advocacy efforts

  • Represent the CVB on local and state committees and boards
  • Represent the CVB at tourism industry events
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Assist the CEO with advocacy strategies

 

Other duties

  • Participate in continuing education activities
  • Stay current on tourism trends
  • Prepare monthly reports for the CEO and board of directors
  • Assist with the development of the annual budget
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality and tourism, marketing, communications, or public relations.
  • Five (5) years of experience in hotel, hospitality and tourism, economic development, CVB sales, and management. CVB experience is preferred but not required.
  • Three (3) years of management experience
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, such as MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with CRM (customer relationship management) software preferred, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work and make decisions proactively, take the initiative, prioritize, plan and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable collaborating and working with a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the tourism industry, its vocabulary, and its unique sales and marketing needs
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and be able to travel as necessary
