At Lost World Caverns, you can see daylight—about 12 stories above your feet. That natural skylight marks this cave’s discovery point. “In the early 1900s, there was a big cattle ranch here, and the old farmer was dumping his garbage and his dead cows down this hole he found on the hill,” says the cavern’s owner, Steve Silverberg. “He had no idea what was down here. He just knew it took a long time to hit bottom, and it never filled up.”
