Tucked in a quiet corner of the Monongahela National Forest, Lake Sherwood is a 165-acre mountain oasis revered for its swimming, fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding opportunities. Come equipped with picnic-fixings and wile away the afternoon on the lake’s only island -- connected to the “mainland” by an arched walking bridge.

 

UPDATE 10.14.21:

  • Lake, boat ramp, trailhead, and vault toilets at beach and gatehouse are open year-round
  • West Shore Loop closes November 1
  • Remaining campground, group camping, picnic area, picnic pavilion and swimming beach are closed for the season

Lake Sherwood Recreation Area is a complete family destination offering a wide variety of outdoor options. 

Activities: fishing, swimming beaches, picnic shelter, playground, volleyball court, boat ramp and hiking trails 

Fishing: tiger muskie, channel catfish, bullhead, bluegill and largemouth bass

Trails: Lake Sherwood Trail, Upper Meadow Trail, Meadow Mountain Trail and Meadow Creek

Camping: standard, tent-only and group camping facilities are available along the northeast side of Lake Sherwood

  • Each campsite has a parking spur, tent pad, picnic table, fire ring and lantern post. 
  • All camping areas are served by restrooms with running water, flush toilets, hot showers and electricity (available during the summer season only). In the spring and fall, vault toilets and a hand pump well are available.
  • No electrical, sewage or water hook-ups are available, but there is a dump station on-site.
  • It's a good idea to reserve your space in advance to ensure availability.
