Tucked in a quiet corner of the Monongahela National Forest, Lake Sherwood is a 165-acre mountain oasis revered for its swimming, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding opportunities. Come equipped with picnic-fixings and wile away the afternoon on the lake’s only island -- connected to the “mainland” by an arched walking bridge.
COVID-19 UPDATE 08.04.20: The West Shore Camping Loop is open, along with showers and flush toilets. The swimming beach and family restrooms are open, with a shower and flush toilet available. There are four portable toilets on site. Boat rentals and boat launch are also open.
The Lake Sherwood Gatehouse is staffed daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The dump station is open daily 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other facilities at Lake Sherwood are closed. For more information, call the Marlinton-White Sulphur Ranger District at 304-536-2144 or 304-799-4334.
Lake Sherwood Recreation Area is a complete family destination offering a wide variety of outdoor options.
Activities: fishing, swimming beaches, picnic shelter, playground, volleyball court, boat ramp and hiking trails
Fishing: tiger muskie, channel catfish, bullhead, bluegill and largemouth bass
Trails: Lake Sherwood Trail, Upper Meadow Trail, Meadow Mountain Trail and Meadow Creek
Camping: standard, tent-only and group camping facilities are available along the northeast side of Lake Sherwood
Rentals: the Boathouse at Lake Sherwood rents jon boats, kayaks, SUP boards and canoes from Memorial Day through Labor Day - 304-536-9155
