Big & Little Clear Creeks

Just beyond Rupert in the Meadow River Valley, Big and Little Clear creeks offer classic mountain trout fishing with a little grit built in. Big Clear Creek runs alongside Anjean Road, making several stocked stretches and deep pools easy to reach, though the boulders and steep banks mean you’ll want steady footing to access them.

Big Clear Creek is stocked in the spring, with additional trout releases in October, giving anglers multiple opportunities throughout the year. The trout here are known to respond well to artificial lures, spinners and live minnows, especially in the deeper holes where they like to linger.

As its name suggests, Little Clear Creek offers a quieter, more intimate experience, but every bit as rewarding.

At a Glance

  • Big Clear Creek is a tributary of the Meadow River, which eventually flows into the Gauley River.

  • Water levels can fluctuate with rainfall and spring snow melt, affecting accessibility and fishing conditions.

  • Anglers should always check current West Virginia DNR regulations for stocking schedules, creel limits and license requirements.
