State Fair of WV Named Top 20 Event for Summer 2010

Posted: Feb 10, 2010

The State Fair of West Virginia was recently selected by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) as one of the Top 20 Events for Summer 2010.

“We are honored to be selected by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the top events for the upcoming summer season” said Marlene Pierson-Jolliffe, Manager of the State Fair of WV. “This recognition highlights the efforts of the staff and volunteers who work hard to provide a wonderful event year after year while holding on to our mission of agriculture, education and family entertainment.

This is the fifth time the State Fair of West Virginia has earned this honor; the event was included on the list in both 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009. The Top 20 Events list began in 1985 as a way to promote the best events in the Southeast. Nominations must be received by STS members and the State Fair was nominated by the Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau in January 2009.

“This recognition is very exciting for the State Fair, as well as the entire county,” said CVB Executive Director, Kara Dense. “The STS list is highly respected by individuals in the tourism industry as well as travelers and will help draw positive attention to our area.”

The Top 20 Events publication is sent to over 1,600 newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations, AAA publications and others. The combined circulation runs into the millions.

Founded in 1983, Southeast Tourism Society is dedicated to the promotion and development of tourism to its 12 member states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The membership includes state travel offices, attractions, hotels, motels, resorts, convention and visitors bureaus, airlines, car rental agencies, newspapers, magazines and other travel-related organizations. Its headquarters are in Atlanta.
