Lewisburg, WV (August 31, 2010) – The Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a Grand Opening and Dedication celebration on Tuesday, September 7 at 11am at the new Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center located at 200 Washington Street West in downtown Lewisburg.
The new regional facility, which promotes Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Monroe and Summers Counties, includes 7,500 square feet of space for brochures, maps, exhibits and an interactive kiosk. The space is also outfitted with flat screen televisions for weather, news and sports updates. For guests wanting to access the internet, three computers are available as is free wifi. A future retail area will sell Greenbrier Valley-logoed items along with drinks and other traveling staples.
Since the Center’s opening on July 22, over 5,000 people have visited the new location. “We are extremely excited about our new Center,” said Kara Dense, Executive Director of the Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau.” In one month of having our doors open to the public, we have already surpassed the number of visitors who came to our previous location during all of 2009.”
The CVB purchased the Visitors Center building in 2007 and recently renovated it with funds that Congressman Nick Rahall secured from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The $544,000 HUD grant, coupled with a million-dollar loan from the Greenbrier County Commission, allowed the CVB to create a Center to promote the four-county region. Tourism in Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Monroe and Summers Counties has an economic impact of more than $345 million annually, according to a WV Division of Tourism 2008 Economic Impact Study.
Congressman Rahall will be present for the ribbon-cutting. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided by Fruits of Labor.
The Center is open Monday through Saturday, 9am to 6pm and Sunday noon to 5pm. For more information, contact 304-645-1000 or visit www.greenbrierwv.com.
