Happiest Mountain Town by Blue Ridge Country

Lewisburg wins "Happiest Mountain Town" reader poll and graces the 2016 May/June cover of Blue Ridge Country magazine. Competing in the population under 10,000, Lewisburg emerged victorious over 31 other towns for the title. The article highlights Carnegie Hall and Greenbrier Valley Theatre for enriching the community with culture, notes the extensive culinary diversity available around town and recommends lodging at the General Lewis Inn for overnight visits.

Greenbrier Valley has always been the ideal getaway for foodies, shopaholics and those who appreciate a fine resort. But with multitude of winners in Blue Ridge Outdoor magazine’s  Best of the Blueridge Contest, this destination is also highly regarded for its outdoor opportunities.  

 

2015

Top 50 Christmas Destinations in America by Newsmax.com

Newsmax selected the Top 50 Christmas Destinations in America and The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs ranked #2 beating out such heavy-weights as Pigeon Forge, TN, Branson, MO and New York, NY. Although they don’t quite know where our Carnegie Hall is located, we find no fault with their taste in destinations. 

 

Best Hotels in Every State by Travel + Leisure

Travel + Leisure went looking for the best hotel in every state and in West Virginia that, of course, is The Greenbrier.

Due to its historic ties, well-preserved buildings and easy access to the arts, Lewisburg was among the "10 most beautiful towns in WV" as listed on Culturetrip.com. This website is dedicated to the discovery of the best art, food, culture and travel locations for countries around the globe.

 

Nicest Place in the South by PorterBriggs.com 

For July, Lewisburg, WV was selected as the "Nicest Place in the South by PorterBrigg.com. Known as "the voice of the South," this website shares the stories, history and culture of the South from Texas and Oklahoma to Maryland and Virginia.  The website has a monthly feature titled the “Nicest Place in the South” whereby, a southern destination city is highlighted. Previous cities included Biloxi, MS, Louisville, KY, Staunton, VA, Charleston, SC and Nashville, TN.

 

55 Good Things About WV by The State Journal

Each year the State Journal highlights 55 good things about WV, and for 2015 it included two Greenbrier Valley favorites -- The Livery Tavern and The State Fair of WV. The Livery Tavern is known for its “new Appalachian cuisine,” its extensive wine list and distinctive interior. Since the State Fair of WV continues to showcase the best of West Virginia’s food, farming and fun, it was chosen as one of six hall-of-fame entries this year,.

 

Best of West Virginia by WV Living Magazine

Lewisburg’s Mayor, John Manchester, was voted Best Mayor. In addition to his annual role as Willy Wonka during the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival, Mayor Manchester also works to beautify the city and make it more walkable.

Carnegie Hall is the winner of Best Restoration of Cultural Landmark. Originally built in 1902 by Andrew Carnegie, the 1997 restoration of Carnegie Hall is widely credited as jump starting the revitalization of Lewisburg. 

Steeped in history and brimming with class, is it any wonder that The Greenbrier won Best Resort for WV Living Magazine?

 

Best of West Virginia by WV Weddings

WV Weddings is an annual magazine detailing destination weddings in the state. In the magazine's annual “best of,” a Lewisburg's local kitchen shop, Bella’s The Corner Gourmet, won for "Best Wedding Registry." Voters like its wide variety of unique and beautiful kitchen supplies, most of which is sourced regioinally. 

 

2014

America's Favorite Towns by Travel + Leisure

Voted #3 on a highly competitive list of small towns around the country, Lewisburg, WV was selected for its historic interest, access to outdoor recreation and excellent mix of shopping from eclectic antiques to the funky and trendy. They were also featured on Weather.com and Wake up with Al.

 

Best Town for the Arts & Best Town to Retire In by WV Living

In their "Best of WV 2014 Awards" Lewisburg was recognized for its small town vibe with big city amenties that make it the perfect place to retire, It's probably best known for its eclectic arts scenes -- galleries and boutique shops along side West Virginia's only professional theatre and regular live music events.

Greenbrier County was selected among 500-plus sites as one of the best meeting locales in the South.

 

Stars of the Industry Mountain State Award to Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall, one of only four in the world still in continuous use today, was recognized for their ability to share the Carnegie Hall experience with the residents and visitors of Greenbrier County, while seeking out inovative events for the entire community to prosper and benefit.     

 

Greenbrier Valley Polar Bear Plunge Selected as STS Top 20 Event for March 2014

The Greenbrier Valley Polar Bear Plunge was recently selected by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) as a Top 20 Event for March 2014. This is the first time the event has received this distinction.

 

 

2013

Lewisburg Named One of America's Favorite Towns by Travel + Leisure Magazine

Travel + Leisure magazine recently announced the winners of an inaugural survey to determine America's Favorite Towns. Lewisburg, West Virginia was among the winners.The survey asked Travel + Leisure fans to nominate their favorite towns using social media channels. Lewisburg was one of 744 towns in 55 categories that were nominated, and twenty towns were hailed as winners.

The Alderson 4th of July Celebration and the State Fair of West Virginia were recently selected as a Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Top 20 Events for Summer 2013.

 

 

2012

Greenbrier County CVB Wins Stars of the Industry Award

The Greenbrier County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) was awarded Best Print Photography Layout during the WV Governor's Conference on Tourism's Stars of the Industry Awards Dinner on October 9th. The CVB won for the Budget Travel magazine spread, 6th Annual Coolest Small Towns in America, featuring Lewisburg, WV.

 

Three Greenbrier County Restaurants Named to the 101 Unique Places to Dine List

Three local restaurants, Bella Casa, The Mason Jar and Stardust Café, were recently recognized in the West Virginia Division of Tourism's 101 Unique Places to Dine contest.

 

 

2008

The Greenbrier - Best Hotel in the Southern United States

The Greenbrier was selected by readers of Global Traveler as the Best Hotel in the Southern United states during the publication's fifth annual GT Tested Reader Survey. More than 31,000 distinguished readers responded to the magazine's annual survey of airlines, hotels, loyalty programs and travel related products in 55 categories.

 

Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Events

The Lewisburg Chocolate Festival and the Battle of Lewisburg Living History and Reenactment were selected by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) as two of the Top 20 Events for Spring 2008.

 

AAA Five Diamond Award

The Greenbrier resort earned the AAA Five Diamond Award for 2009. The resort has receivd the Five Diamond distinction since the award's inception in 1975.

The Main Dining Room at The Greenbrier was recently honored by Wine Spectator magazine with the Best of Award of Excellence, which recognizes the exceptional quality and breadth of the resort's wine collection

Readers of Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report named The Greenbrier the #7 U.S. Resort in their 27th annual survey of sophisticated travelers, as published in the September issue. The Greenbrier was named among the top ten best spas in the world for Best for Cooking Classes, Best for Golf, Best Medical Program, Best for Men and Best for Mineral Springs by the readers of SpaFinder. The Greenbrier resort was named in Travel + Leisure's The Best of 2007 edition as one of the Top 100 Hotels in the US and Canada. The Greenbrier Spa was also named as one of the Top 25 Hotel Spas.
