Geocaching is a fun, family-friendly hide-and-seek activity with GPS coordinates. People hide caches and then post the cache’s GPS coordinates online at www.geocaching.com. Anyone can access the website for free and search for hidden caches (using a GPS device). The Greenbrier Geocache Trail includes 9 caches placed from Caldwell to Hinton along the Greenbrier River. To find caches, search “Greenbrier Geocache Trail” at the website listed above and make an expedition of it! Caches can be of all shapes and sizes but are typically small Tupperware containers containing a log book, small trading items (coins, buttons, etc…) and information specific to the location.
This project was created to add recreational value to the watershed, encouraging visitors to explore its features while also educating the public about the unique history of the Greenbrier River.
